AVID Program

AVID at Beaufort Middle School

AVID is an elective class offered to sixth and seventh (average to above average performing) students who would like to prepare for four-year universities as well as technical education and careers.  AVID is BMS’s SCHOOL CHOICE option, so any student from Beaufort County may apply.  The application deadline is March 15, and we have limited spaces for the cohort and elective classes.  Please apply soon.  AVID Site Team members will visit BMS feeder elementary schools early in March to answer any questions students may have.  We will also follow up with a parent meeting that same week.

Features of the program:

  • AVID is an elective class that takes place either on A day or B day all year long.
  • ElevAte tutorials are required to provide support in advanced coursework and/or offer an extension to the core curriculum for GT and advanced students.
  • The curriculum features writing, inquiry, collaboration, reading, note-taking and study skills, and college/career/motivational activities.  
  • As we prepare you for advanced classes and college-readiness skills, we provide tutors in the areas of need, usually for advanced classes. 
  • Also, we take field trips to colleges in the area and spend time learning about college possibilities.  
  • Not everyone is chosen for AVID.  
  • You must apply, interview, and commit to being a serious college-bound student.  Additionally, you must have satisfactory citizenship (behavior), good attendance, and a C or better average in your classes overall.  
  • You do not have to be perfect, but you must be committed!  
  • If interested, complete the application, and we will call you to interview if you qualify.
